About
ABOUT FILIPA THESPIAN:
Filipa Couture is … Filipa Thespian, a 5 year resident of SecondLife, avid roleplayer and graphic artist (among other things) in the real world.
Filipa owns and built the sim called “Park Avenue” on which her stores, Filipa Couture and La Kara Roleplay Attire reside. Also found on Park Avenue are The Pyramid Theatre, Swirl Rocks nightclub, the home offices of Swirl and many other shopping and relaxation opportunities.
Filipa’s fashion designs are inspired by the imagination. Her love of art in all it’s magnificent forms culminate in the creation of SecondLife clothing. There are so many facets of design that come into play when creating attire for the fashion conscious of SL, from the making of custom textures to the artful orchestration of prims … from the tastefully placed ‘glow’ to the intricately planned ‘flex’. Filipa’s love of SL and design seem to flow through her clothing creations and the sim she’s created as well.
OTHER RELATED EXPERIENCE:
In February of 2010, Filipa kicked it up a notch by adding to her next fashion show, a show all about role play attire and fantasy clothing, elements of a full scale Broadway musical. The standard fashion walks were encased in a story performed magnificently with voice and text, by the Dazzler’s Dance Troupe. Oi Magazine commented “There’s one word to describe the Fantasy of Fashion show produced by Swirl, a marketing firm dedicated to Second Life’s fashion industry. That single word is: WOW!” There’s more to be found to this quote, with other reviews at http://www.GiveItASwirl.info.
In November of 2009, Filipa produced her first fashion show through her new production company, Swirl (Give It A Swirl), at the newly built Pyramid Theatre on Park Avenue. A spring board for bringing her RL business, the production of plays and musicals, to the SL community. Hosted by Frolic Mills and with over 65 people in attendance at each of 2 shows, the audience was amazed that none of the common issues that plague fashion shows occurred…it went smoothly and ended timely. All were greatly entertained. Reviews can be found at http://www.GiveItASwirl.info.
In September of 2009, Filipa joined the BOSL team as a graphic artist on the #1 fashion magazine in SL, The Best of Second Life Magazine (BOSL). Wtihin 2 months, she was promoted to Art Director and has been designing for BOSL as such ever since. This is important to her couture clothing business because of what she learns from the biggest fashionista’s in SL as well as the further opportunity to expand her knowledge, design experience and education on the SL marketplace.
In the summer of 2009, another topic about which Filipa is passionate, business and marketing, specifically within the confines of the Second Life business community and how to learn from and use RL knowledge and tactics to further your SL business, drove her to begin her own business/economy blog and group for SLian’s.
ACCLAIM:
In September of 2010, Filipa was approached by the Fashion Rocks management team and invited to become one of the designers on the tour.
During the summer of 2010, AVENUE Magazine contacted Filipa regarding her new line of lingerie fashions, inviting her to participate in their Summer Boudoir Secrets fashion show. In the show review article in the august issue of AVENUE Magazine, AVENUE had this to say about Filipa’s work:
Filipa Thespian of Filipa Couture is known for her use of unique textures and interesting design cuts. With the colors of love, pink, red and white, the sets Succulant Flower, Hearts A Fire and Mystique were sure to please.
In the Fall of 2009, Filipa was invited (more like “told” by Frolic) to participate in the 2009 Designer’s Challenge.
Please visit Park Avenue, shop, wander around, take in a show, pop into the club for some nightlife or just say “howdy.”
